MINDFUL CHRISTMAS
As the madness ensues and the rush begins, it is a good time to remember that we have a choice. We have a choice in the busyness, the hurry and the stress, and we can actually choose a more mindful Christmas, this year.
Christmas looks different for everyone. Some of us may be spending it reuniting with loved ones after a really tough couple of years, and others may be spending it toasting to a new home, a new family member, or remembering the ones that we lost along the way.
However you are spending it, it should be a time of love, celebration, and care. It isn’t about the material things, running for the last turkey on the shelf or panic buying on Christmas Eve. Make it mindful and take it slow, and see how that feels.
The food doesn’t have to be a seven-course feast. Ironic coming from us, we know. The food and the drink can be whatever you want or need it to be. Make it easy for yourself and enjoy the process. If you love cooking, how can you ease the stress and make it meditative? If you don’t enjoy cooking, don’t do it. Can you get something delivered, or nominate someone else for cooking duties?
The presents don’t have to exist, being present is present enough. Focus on that time spent with the ones you love, your family and friends, chosen and cherished. If you are gifting things this year, how can you make that part mindful too? Whether it is making something or buying from a local artisan, think about the ways in which you can give something with intention, not for the sake of giving.
You don’t have to spend the week rushing from house to house, stressed and breaking a sweat. Think about slowing down, taking time and maybe even spreading out those visits, or combining a few together, so you can lean into the magic and enjoy it, instead of it being a blur from start to end.
Christmas is a time when we should slow down, take stock, and be grateful.
Be grateful for the ones around you, for getting through this far, and allow yourself to be excited for the magic of what is to come.
Have a merry mindful Christmas, from ours to yours.
Team Feasted.
