TEA TIME IN THE KITCHEN
We know that small hands can sometimes get in the way and we know there is a time and a place for kids in the kitchen, trust us! But, if you have kids who are desperate to get involved, here are some ways that can be a help in the kitchen, and learn something along the way…
Tea time is a great meal to get them involved in, ideally in half term when there is a little more time to spare, we think!
Cutting and chopping
As long as you have some child safe scissors and a knife, let them chop and cut the veggies and anything else that they might be able to turn their attention to. Give them a demo first and keep an eye on things as they go, but this is a great way for them to learn and develop skills, plus you can ask them to try and make sure each piece is the same size, but don’t hold out much hope for that.
Weighing and measuring
Get the scales out or a measuring jug and have them looking at the numbers to make sure everything is just right. Small pinch pots and bowls are great for this as they can weigh out each ingredient and put it on one side.
Poking and prodding
Depending on what you are making, the dish may need some further investigation. If you’re making bread, a poke and a groove can be great fun for small hands, and if you are making a stew or a soup, a sauce or suchlike, they can be in charge of stirring the whole way through.
Testing and tasting
The best part? We think so. Particularly fun if you are making something sweet, as bowl-licking is a mighty responsibility, but this is fun either way. Tasting the flavours, and making sure everything is top-notch before it is served. You will have a mini chef in no time!
Will they come in hands for the washing up? That is yet to be proven.
Have a little fun in the kitchen and let us know how you get on!
